Ascorbic Acid

Ascorbic Acid, commonly known as Vitamin C, is an essential water-soluble vitamin. Because the human body cannot synthesize it, it must be obtained through diet or supplementation. It is required for the synthesis of collagen, carnitine, and certain neurotransmitters, and plays a vital role in immune function, tissue repair, and the absorption of non-heme iron.

Dosage by Body Weight

Dosage varies significantly based on age, indication, and nutritional status. For dietary supplementation, standard adult doses typically range from 50 mg to 1000 mg daily. For therapeutic treatment of scurvy, doses can be much higher as directed by a healthcare provider. Best taken with a glass of water, with or without food. Avoid exceeding the tolerable upper intake level (UL) of 2000 mg/day in adults to prevent gastrointestinal discomfort.
